School of Community Health Sciences - NIHR Research Design Service for the East Midlands
School of Clinical Sciences - In association with the National Biomedical Research Unit in Hearing
Applications are invited for the above post that could be combined into one full-time post.
Applications are invited for the above post in the NIHR Research Design Service for the East Midlands (RDS-EM) to provide methodological support and advice to NHS researchers and others working in partnership with the NHS who are developing and designing high quality research proposals for submission to national, peer reviewed funding competitions. The successful candidate will be expected to provide statistical advice on the design and analysis of research proposals and participate in the delivery of funding awareness seminars and other learning events provided by the RDS.
Hours of work are 14½ per week (2 days to be agreed). This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2015.
Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a subject relevant to health services research (e.g. statistics, epidemiology) and a higher degree in medical, applied or social statistics (or equivalent).

Applications are invited for the above post in the National Biomedical Research Unit in Hearing (NBRUH) working with a small team of scientists, from a variety of academic and clinical backgrounds, to design, develop, analyse and disseminate translational research proposals in the areas of hearing and learning.
Hours of work are 21¾ per week (3 days per week to be agreed). This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2012 (In April 2012, if NBRUH funding is continued, this role will continue. If in 2012, NBRUH funding is not renewed, and the person appointed is fulfilling both roles, the post would become full-time in the RDS until 31 March 2015).

Unit Administrator (Fixed-term)

Salary : £16,161 to £19,184 per annum (Salary can progress to £22,879 per annum, subject to performance)
This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2012.
The National Biomedical Research Unit in Hearing (NBRUH) is a partnership between Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH Trust), The University of Nottingham, and the Medical Research Council Institute of Hearing Research. It employs approximately 25 academic, technical and administrative staff, all based in newly refurbished Trust premises in the centre of Nottingham.
Reporting to the Unit Manager, the successful candidate will provide 1) a purchasing, transactional accounting and administration service to meet the needs of the National Biomedical Research Unit in Hearing (50%) and 2) specialist administrative services to the Clinical Lead for the Trent Regional Specialty Group in ENT (50%).
Candidates should have a vocational qualification to the level of NVQ3 administration with secretarial skills or equivalent. Effective and confident communication skills to be able to work with colleagues at all levels of seniority and professional backgrounds are essential, as are good interpersonal skills in dealing with members of the public and the ability to work as part of a small and busy team.
Experience in the following areas is essential:
• Good working experience of transactional finance and purchasing systems.
• Experience of managing transactional financial processes.
• Considerable relevant experience of general office procedures and providing administrative support to senior management.
• Very good working knowledge of MS Office and the Internet.
